Kanye West talking about fashion is EVERYTHING!!
Seriously though, GQ promised on their August cover that Yeezus would bless us common folk with tips on how to “dress like a god”, and boy did they deliver.
First of all, ‘Ye wants everyone to know that dressing well is about quality, not quantity:
“It’s not about having a lot of clothes. It’s about a few favorites.”
Okay, okay, we’re off to a good start!!
Next, if you really want to impress with your wardrobe, it’s important to go above and beyond. Why be 100% of one style when you can be 50% of three styles, thereby pushing you up to 150%??
As Kanye explains:
“Skinny pants are rock ‘n’ roll. And big coats are really hip-hop. I’m looking for 50 percent rock ‘n’ roll, 50 percent hip-hop, 50 percent genius. Because, you know├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥for genius, you have to be at a hundred and fifty percent.”
Very logical, nice math!
Then, there’s the issue of contrast in clothing:
“Most clothes are black or white. But I don’t like all that contrast. It looks either too work, too waiter, or too wedding-y to me. If that’s even a word, wedding-y. Anyway, that’s why I like tonal. There’s less contrast; it’s more casual.”
So basically, work in shades of gray if you’re trying to be casual! Makes sense. As for most clothes being black or white, maybe not entirely true, but whatevs!
Yeezy also has a strong opinion about military green, because of course he does:
“Military green is classic, masculine, not too trendy├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥all the stuff men’s clothes are supposed to be.”
We can get on board with that!
However, Mr. Kim Kardashian does leave readers with one tip that’s not quite as simple to interpret…He’s apparently very emotional about layers, and therefore only thinks they’re appropriate for certain situations.
For instance:
“If you’re wearing layers, you can be in L.A., New York, Paris, in an airport lounge, or on a plane, taking layers on and off however. And the proportions get emotional. You know how a graphic can express a feeling or an emotion? Layers can, too.”
Interesting… thoughts???
