Well, we can’t say we’re surprised.
As we mentioned earlier, Drake has been sicky-poo so he had to bail on London’s Wireless Festival over the weekend. But luckily for Kanye West fans (and unluckily for Nike, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton), Yeezus was there to swoop in and take his place!
During ‘Ye’s performance of Runaway, however, the rapper was in a ranting mood and took a break from his song to absolutely rail on the fashion industry for 15 mins — which in turn caused him to be booed. And he had some very specific accusations for the aforementioned fashion labels!
Here’s a brief segment of his rant:
├óΓé¼┼ôI├óΓé¼Γäóm not going to diss Nike or anything, but don├óΓé¼Γäót discriminate against me. They tell me, ├óΓé¼╦£Sit in the front row. Wear this jacket I made for you and do as you├óΓé¼Γäóre told.├óΓé¼Γäó├óΓé¼ΓÇ░I├óΓé¼Γäóm not dissing Louis Vuitton, I├óΓé¼Γäóm not dissing the Gucci group. I├óΓé¼Γäóm just saying, don├óΓé¼Γäót discriminate against me because I├óΓé¼Γäóm a black man, or because I├óΓé¼Γäóm a celebrity, to determine that I can├óΓé¼Γäót create…
You know damn well no black guys or celebrities making Louis Vuitton nothing. They let Pharrell make those [Louis Vuitton] glasses, and we liked ’em, right? They let me make those [Louis Vuitton] shoes and we liked ’em, right? They said, ‘No, no, no n***a. Not no more. That’s too much. Stay in your place. Stand in front of that show and wear this jacket I made you. Stay in your place! Do what you’re paid to do! Don’t embarrass yourself trying to chase your dreams. Save face.
That’s why I got this f***ing mask on. Cause I ain’t worried about saving face. F**k my face! That sounded wrong. Pause. They finally got a headline. But f**k whatever my face is supposed to mean and f**k whatever the name Kanye is supposed to mean, it’s about my dreams!
It├óΓé¼Γäós about anybody├óΓé¼Γäós dreams. It├óΓé¼Γäós about creating. It├óΓé¼Γäós not about the idea about being a f**king celebrity, it├óΓé¼Γäós not about the idea of being a black man trying to do fashion and sh*t…”
Uhhh….
Guess that explains those fancy Maison Martin Margiela masks he wears all the time!
And while we understand that Kanye is mad at Nike for not partnering with him, he can’t exactly accuse them of discriminating against African American celebrities since Drake is designing for them!
Then when it comes to Gucci, they basically don’t let any celebs design for them no matter what their skin color.
But Louis Vuitton does! And as Kanye mentioned, he’s designed for them in the past — which is more than a lot of celebrities can say!
Clearly it wasn’t enough though.
Thoughts!?
