Kate Hudson is coming to the defense of her momma Goldie Hawn!
During an appearance on the Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast on Tuesday, the 43-year-old actress reflected on her mom’s career within the entertainment industry, recalling how she was often unfairly labeled as “difficult” or “complicated” just because she had an opinion:
“She had to really fight for a lot of these movies to be made [and] was seen by a lot of people as difficult and complicated because she had a point of view. She decided to tell people that told her to stay in her lane to go f**k themselves and basically started producing her own movies, which wasn’t happening at the time.”

Kelly Ripa noted how it’s “funny” that women are often considered “difficult” for speaking their mind. Agreeing with the 52-year-old host’s sentiments, Kate went on to recount how she recently ran into someone who previously said he had problems working with Goldie:
“He was sort of saying that she was challenging and I remember thinking, ‘You know, that’s funny, but was she right about what you thought was her being difficult?’ And he was like, ‘Oh yeah, I mean she was definitely right. The whole script needed a complete rewrite.’”
Ugh. Seriously?! The Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery star continued:
“She really was just trying to say, ‘Hey guys we should probably relook at the script’ … And that is considered complicated. Especially in the ’70s and ’80s in Hollywood.”
For someone to say she’s hard to work with just because she was right for telling the higher-ups to take another look at a script? That’s pretty messed up. But unfortunately, we’ve heard time and time again about women in Hollywood who were labeled as “difficult” when they were sticking up for themselves or sharing their points of view.
Despite facing so much push back in the industry, Goldie did not give up throughout her career – something Kate admires so much about the 77-year-old actress:
“I saw her strength. I saw her conviction. She’s so determined. I mean she’s really unbelievable. She was on the cutting edge of this and she never gave up. Twenty years now and she’s finally getting her sort of kudos for what she’s been creating but she doesn’t let up.”
The Fabletics founder also gushed about how she’s “blessed” to have Goldie as her mom, saying:
“I don’t even know what I must’ve done in a past life to be born to her as a mother.”
Aww!!! While Kate praised her mother, Kelly took a moment to applaud The First Wives Club star for being a “grounded” and “normal” celeb:
“She’s one of the few people that I know from my talk show who I’ve seen out and about and we have a mutual friend and we’ve had dinners together and what you see is what you get. There’s no fakeness. It’s not like a Hollywood facade. She’s just a really good normal nice girl.”
