We’re just as excited about the royal baby as the next person, but we didn’t realize that there was so much at stake for Kate Middleton and her little bun in the oven!
Over the past year, the number of women who are choosing to breastfeed their children has dropped by 5,700, and it’s the first time in a decade that figure has dropped!
So why are less and less mommies choosing to not go the natural route when feeding their babies?? Beverley Turner of The Telegraph UK believes society has inadvertently made it “uncool” to breastfeed!
She writes:
“Young mums are especially unlikely to breastfeed: it├óΓé¼Γäós not cool; it├óΓé¼Γäós not sexy and their boyfriends won├óΓé¼Γäót like it. A lack of decent ante-natal education means they probably don├óΓé¼Γäót even know that it will reduce their chances of breast cancer in later life. They├óΓé¼Γäóve been raised to think ├óΓé¼╦£buying stuff├óΓé¼Γäó is the only way to demonstrate success.”
As a new mother herself, Beverley admits that it is not always the easiest option, but there are proven health benefits for babies AND mothers who breastfeed!
So the real question is, how do we make breastfeeding cool again?? That’s where Kate comes in!
Beverley continues:
“[We] need women with power and influence to get their milky bosoms out and feed smiling in paparazzi pictures. Celebrity is depressingly powerful in dictating trends. As if there wasn├óΓé¼Γäót enough pressure on her already, what we really need is The Duchess of Cambridge to get her Royal orbs out to feed our future monarch. And to be applauded ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ not seethed at ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ for doing so.”
There’s no doubt that if Kate chose to start breastfeeding, tons of new mommies would try, or at the very least consider, breastfeeding for themselves!
However, the last time her “Royal orbs” made an appearance, it caused quite a headache for her and her family!
We guess we’ll just have to wait and see if Kate chooses to feed, or not to feed!
