Katy Perry Finally Personally Addresses Her AMAs Geisha Dress-Up Controversy!

Remember wayyyy back in November when Katy Perry stirred things by kicking off the American Music Awards in Geisha attire?
Well, her stylist responded to the backlash immediately, but KP stayed mum on the subject – until now!!
During her recently published GQ interview, KatyKat was asked what she was going for with those controversial costumes — costumes many thought glorified the indentured servitude of women.
But like her stylist, Katy claims it was only her love for Japan that inspired the outfits!
She insists:

“I was thinking about unconditional love, and I was thinking: Geishas are basically, like, the masters of loving unconditionally. All I was trying to do is just give a very beautiful performance about a place that I have so much love for and find so much beauty in, and that was exactly where I was coming from, with no other thought besides it.”

Aww we just KNOW her heart was in the right place – Miz Perry has been VERY open about her love for Japan in the past!
Still, the attempted tribute probably could’ve been thought out a little better.
At least it’s clear she had no ill intentions!
