Oh man, is Katy Perry desperate for another hit or what??
The Firework singer hasn’t had a chart-topper or a huge smash music video in quite a long time, and after losing all those Dark Horse royalties to a copyright lawsuit, momma needs a hit video.
So for her latest she brought out the big guns. No, not a Taylor Swift cameo. That’s not a two-way street.

No, for her video for Small Talk, the secret weapon was puppy dog eyes. On her actual puppy dog.
Yep, Katy went with the ancient Information Age wisdom, if you want to go viral on the Internet, make a puppy video.
AND IT WORKED!!!
We cannot stop watching this ludicrously sweet puppy!
In the vid, Katy goes full-on Best In Show, grooming and pampering her little Nugget.
She then takes her to a dog show where she falls for another contestant — or a contestant’s owner we guess — and basically neglects her poor pup for the remainder of the vid. Hence, the tears.
Spoiler alert — it all has a happy ending!
The new guy moves in and brings his dog, who makes a love connection with little Nugget.
And they all live happily ever after.
We mean, did you really think something this candy-coated could end in anything other than smiles all around?
Well, other than Serial Mom we guess…
Innerestingly, the visuals have basically ZERO to do with the actual song.
Small Talk is all about that awkward moment you share with an ex at a party where you realize you used to bone and now you’re so uncomfortable you’re basically like distant acquaintances reduced to talking about the weather or some such nonsense.
We mean, those lyrics:
“Had every inch of your skin
There’s nowhere your hands haven’t been
Ain’t it funny?
‘Cause now there’s nothing left but small talk”
It’s actually totally relatable and would have made an interesting and potentially VERY sexy idea for video. Especially if it utilized Katy’s IRL fiancé Orlando Bloom.
But you know, it wouldn’t have had an adorable puppy.
