Kelly Ripa‘s kids are all grown up! Well, almost…
The daytime talk show host got to experience life on the other side Tuesday night as she was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel‘s special New York City week.
As a fellow parent, Jimmy had to ask about the mother-of-three’s kids, starting with Michael Consuelos.
The 22-year-old, who made headlines by playing the younger version of his own father Mark Consuelos on a special Riverdale flashback episode last year, has finally moved out of the house and is living in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn.

When asked how he’s enjoying his first time away from the nest, Kelly couldn’t help but take some jabs at her baby, saying:
“I think he loves the freedom. He hates paying his own rent and he’s chronically poor. I don’t think he ever really experienced, you know, extreme poverty like now.”
Extreme poverty?? Ha! Not coming from this family!

Even if Michael’s parents were freakin’ TV stars, he can still apparently rely on Grandma and Grandpa for a little extra dough. Kelly continued:
“It’s very funny, my parents for years always give my kids for Halloween, they mail them an envelope with twenty dollars in it. For years I’m like, ‘Mom, Dad, you don’t have to do that. They don’t appreciate it. Don’t worry about it.’
And for years my kids sort of ignored the $20 and Mark and I would say, ‘You know, when we were kids $20 would take you through weeks and weeks of life.'”
It always sounds like some big fish stories, but it’s true. In 1982, when Kelly was ten years old, a McDonald’s quarter pounder was just $0.45.
But now circumstances are a little different — for Mickey D’s AND for Michael. Kelly laughs:
“Now that he’s living on his own, he’s called three times, ‘Halloween envelope arrived?’ He’s like, taking the subway just to pick up hi Halloween envelope. Just so he can have electricity. He’s experiencing being an adult.”
Meanwhile Kelly and Mark’s daughter Lola Consuelos just went off to college, and she’s coming home for a completely different reason!
Kelly says while Michael wanted to visit all the time, Lola declared her parents wouldn’t see her and she wouldn’t be back and not to worry.

However, it didn’t work out that way…
“We drop her off on a Saturday, it is the end of summer vacation, so we go back out to Long Island for the rest of the summer. Drop her off on a Saturday. Sunday evening, our alarm trips. My daughter’s having a party on the roof of our house! She was gone 12 hours and came home!”
Kelly says her youngest son Joaquin Consuelos is “not allowed to apply within the Tri-State area.” Ha!
