Now that The Beatles‘ music is now available to download on iTunes, there aren’t too many acts left that haven’t agreed to put their tunes out onto the digital marketplace!
But three have stood firm in their refusal, and apparently, here’s why:
AC/DC
Frontman Brian Johnson explains:
“Maybe I├óΓé¼Γäóm just being old-fashioned, but this iTunes, God bless ├óΓé¼╦£em, it├óΓé¼Γäós going to kill music if they├óΓé¼Γäóre not careful ├óΓé¼┬ª It├óΓé¼Γäós a├óΓé¼┬ªmonster, this thing. It just worries me. And I├óΓé¼Γäóm sure they├óΓé¼Γäóre just doing it all in the interest of making as much├óΓé¼┬ªcash as possible. Let├óΓé¼Γäós put it this way, it├óΓé¼Γäós certainly not for the├óΓé¼┬ªlove, let├óΓé¼Γäós get that out of the way, right away.”
Garth Brooks
He says:
“These [Apple] guys are sweet guys, but they├óΓé¼Γäóre businessmen, so they understand. ├óΓé¼┬ª They truly think that they├óΓé¼Γäóre saving music. My hat├óΓé¼Γäós off to them. I looked at them right across the table with all the love in the world and told them they were killing it. And until we get variable pricing, until we get album-only [downloads], then they are not a true retailer for my stuff, and you won├óΓé¼Γäót see my stuff on there├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥with all the love in the world. That├óΓé¼Γäós nothing that they haven├óΓé¼Γäót heard, either.”
He says:
“I just don├óΓé¼Γäót like being told what to do. I don├óΓé¼Γäót have a beef with Apple, or iTunes, or any of them. I do have a beef with that it seems kind of socialist of them to charge the same price for every song. What if every car cost $4,000, you know what I mean? A song from my neighbor├óΓé¼Γäós garage band is not the same value as Bruce Springsteen├óΓé¼Γäós ├óΓé¼╦£Born to Run.├óΓé¼Γäó I just want to decide how my product gets sold with the people who sell it.”
Wow – we have to admit, although we don’t agree, these guys make much better points than we expected them to!
Other artists currently unavailable for download include The Smiths, Tool, Def Leppard, Bob Seger, Black Sabbath, and Frank Zappa.
And it’s their right as musicians to decide how their music is sold, so more power to them!
What do U think?? Do U agree with anything any of these guys have said??
