OMG! Radio Station Accidentally Announces King Charles Death -- What Happened?!

OH NO. This is horrible!!!

Anyone listening to Radio Caroline in Essex, England on Tuesday got quite the shock when their regularly scheduled music was interrupted to announce King Charles III‘s DEATH! What?!?

Thanks to a clip from The Telegraph, you can replay the mistake. What’s Up by 4 Non Blondes was playing when the music cut out, and a man said:

“This is Radio Caroline. We have suspended our normal programmes until further notice as a mark of formal respect following the passing of His Majesty King Charles III.”

The man then repeated:

“This is Radio Caroline. His Majesty King Charles III has passed away. As a mark of respect, we will now be playing suitable continuous music until further notice.”

And if that wasn’t clear enough, the man tripled down:

“The news media has confirmed that his Majesty King Charles III has passed away. Consequently, as a mark of respect Radio Caroline is suspending its normal programmes.”

The British national anthem was then played. Listen HERE.

But as all this was happening, His Majesty was perfectly alive and well on a tour in Northern Ireland with his wife, Queen Camilla. The next day, he was even cracking jokes about getting pooped on by a seagull! He looked totally fine. So, WTF happened??

The radio station apologized for the mistake on Wednesday, claiming there was a “computer error” at its main studio, station manager Peter Moore shared via Facebook:

“Due to a computer error at our main studio, the death of a monarch procedure, which all UK stations hold in readiness while hoping not to require, was accidentally activated on Tuesday afternoon (May 19), mistakenly announcing that HM the King had passed away.”

The statement continued:

“Radio Caroline then fell silent as would be required, which alerted us to restore programming and issue an on-air apology. Caroline has been pleased to broadcast Her Majesty the Queen’s, and now the King’s, Christmas message and we hope to do so for many years to come. We apologise to HM the King and to our listeners for any distress caused.”

Wild!

See:

That’s one of the worst mistakes they could make! So crazy.
