Sometimes, things just don’t work out…
As we’ve been following this weekend, Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler have announced they’re splitting up after a decade (and three children) together. But while we know the pending divorce is not related to any kind of infidelity, it’s up to this point been a vague mystery as to what brought about these two calling it quits.

Well, that all changes now as we’re learning a bit more about some of the behind-the-scenes trouble which has been unfolding between the reality TV star and the former NFL quarterback. From what insiders are saying about the pair, it sounds like divorce has been on the table for quite a while, too.
One source spoke to E! News about the popular couple’s sudden split and revealed things didn’t exactly happen so suddenly, after all. The insider shared (below):
“[The two had] brought up the idea of divorce several times in the past years before. They’ve ultimately decided they truly both aren’t happy … They have really tried to make it work for years, but are on different pages about lifestyles and were arguing a lot. The kids definitely kept them together at times.”
Of course, the couple shares three children: sons Camden Jack and Jaxon Wyatt, and daughter Saylor James. But lots of time trying to make it work for the kids’ sake didn’t pan out, and now, the pair is learning the ropes of a new interaction: co-parenting as exes.
The source shared more about that dynamic, too, revealing:
“[Kristin and Jay] have been seeing each other and co-parenting the kids together … They’re amicable and trying to make it as normal as possible for the kids.”
Currently, they own two homes in Nashville, so living arrangements have been relatively simple in the short-term; they are still “sorting out” their long-term living situation as this whole thing plays out, but according to the source here, “no big decisions” have been made in regards to moving the family or anything like that. Seems like everybody is in kind of a holding pattern as this thing sinks in, ya know?
Trouble in Paradise?
Of course, the Very Cavallari star and her now-estranged husband made headlines recently with their ill-fated trip to the Bahamas right at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic’s spread into the Western Hemisphere. But even while lounging around the island and giving an impression of family fun in the sun, things weren’t all that rosy then, either.
The confidant dished on that, too, telling the outlet the couple didn’t spend much time together, with Kristin opting to hang out more with hairstylist Justin Anderson:
“They spent a lot of time apart. Kristin was with the kids and Justin Anderson a lot hanging out. Of course Jay was around, but they had a lot of space and it was easy for them to be normal in front of the kids.”
Hmmm… interesting.
Whatever is going on, it’s certainly a sudden, surprising end for the pair who first got engaged in November 2011 and tied the knot in Nashville in June 2013. Sad stuff!
