On Monday night the social media embargo lifted for the Tom Hardy Venom movie, and it’s mostly what you’d expect.
Reviews are not great, though critics definitely tried to find nice things to say.

Our fave faint praise is “funny, intentional or not” and “not a complete disaster?” LOLz.
Comic fans will like #Venom, as it pulls directly from the comics in many places. Tater tot fans will also like Venom. It’s certainly clunky & not as fluid as some recent Marvel movies, but it’s funny, intentional or not. Don’t take it too seriously, and stay through the credits pic.twitter.com/Llzvtv0fLL

Think Affleck Daredevil. Think Ang Lee Hulk. Think Halle Berry Catwoman. That's…I mean, that's really all there is to be said, I think. It's absolutely bizarre.

I’m *fascinated* with VENOM. The cast seems to all know they’re in a darker superhero movie, except Tom Hardy who is basically remaking Jim Carrey’s Liar Liar. I kinda loved watching this movie, in a Rocky Horror type of way. At one point Tom Hardy and Venom make out.

Significant chunks of #Venom don’t work *at all* but there is some serious charm to the Eddie/Venom relationship. Not sure I had the intended reactions to some scenes but fun is fun – even when it’s totally ridiculous, right? It’s too bad they didn’t go for the R rating though.

Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and #Venom has some really entertaining moments. A clunky script without nuance bogs the #Venom down, preventing it from choosing between being gritty, funny, or something unique.

At risk of having my first unpopular opinion ever **insert sarcastic tone** I actually enjoyed #Venom a lot. It was funny. It had heart. Michelle Williams is great. So is Tom Hardy. Parts of it just straight up didn’t work but in general, I had a good time. Make up your own minds

BUT some folks couldn’t help but notice quite a few of the Twitter “opinions” looked familiar…
Not saying that #Venom is going to be good or not.
But, I’m pretty sure these are bots. If not, they have no creative and they are copying off one another.
Shoutout to @MisterCintron who showed me this. pic.twitter.com/wKhwK9vXco

But this apparent trolling campaign isn’t just to badmouth Venom.
Note that quite a few of the copy/paste reviews are also praising A Star Is Born…
Well, Buzzfeed reached out to some of the supposed bots and found they were real people. And ONE was a Lady GaGa fan who confessed some Little Monsters had coordinated!
“It’s us Gaga fans creating fake IDs to trash the Venom premiere. They both are getting released on the same day, so we want more audience for A Star Is Born.”
OK, that also sounds fake. LOLz!
But the person pointed out some less obvious ones, pretending to be midwestern moms!

I saw #Venom last night and had to leave halfway through, my children wouldn't stop crying at how bad it was. Luckily a second pre screening of #AStarIsBorn was about to start, and now we are all crying, tears of amazement. Please pray for my eldest he is still in a coma.

Hilariously, once the plot (?) was uncovered, some Venom fans (is that a thing?) began retaliating:

Little Monsters vs alien symbiote.
This is literally the strangest Twitter beef we’ve ever seen.
Whose side are YOU on, we guess??
