Lana Del Rey Lashes Out At Critics Over Claims She's Glamorizing 'Abuse' & Slams Double-Standards For Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, & More

Lana Del Rey lashes out at haters who say she's 'glamorizing abuse' and calls out other female artists.

Lana Del Rey somehow managed to bury good news about her upcoming album under a massive turd of critique for her female peers in the music industry, leaving fans NOT happy!

The 34-year-old singer initially took to Instagram on Thursday to announce the follow-up to her 2019 record, Norman F**king Rockwell!, as well as to respond to critiques that her music glamorizes abusive relationships…

But name dropping one of the biggest artists of our time quickly made Lana’s rant go viral in the worst way.

She began:

“Now that Doja Cat, Ariana [Grande], Camila [Cabello], Cardi B, Kehlani and Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé have had number ones with songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, f**king, cheating, etc – can I please go back to singing about being embodied, feeling beautiful by being in love even if the relationship is not perfect, or dancing for money – or whatever i want – without being crucified or saying that I’m glamorising [sic] abuse???????”

*record scratch*

She’s got balls to throw Queen Bey into this conversation. Doesn’t she know the Hive doesn’t play games?! But let’s not digress…

The Summertime Sadness crooner continued, addressing the controversial takes on her music:

“I’m fed up with female writers and alt singers saying that I glamorise [sic] abuse when in reality I’m just a glamorous person singing about the realities of what we are all now seeing are very prevalent abusive relationships all over the world.”

For reference, fellow singer-songwriter Lorde called Lana’s music “shirt-tugging, desperate, don’t leave me stuff” that was “unhealthy” for young girls to be listening to when she spoke to Fader in 2013.

Lana added:

“With all of the topics women are finally allowed to explore I just want to say over the last ten years I think it’s pathetic that my minor lyrical exploration detailing my sometimes submissive or passive roles in my relationships has often made people say I’ve set women back hundreds of years.”

Del Rey went on to explain that feminism needs to create a space for women who are “slated mercilessly for being their authentic, delicate selves,” before driving home a point about freedom of expression:

“So I just want to say it’s been a long 10 years of bulls**t reviews up until recently and I’ve learned a lot from them, but also I feel it really paved the way for other women to stop ‘putting on a happy face’ and to just be able to say whatever the hell they wanted in their music—unlike my experience where if I even expressed a note of sadness in my first two records I was deemed literally hysterical as though it was literally the 1920s.”

At the tail end of her post (below), Lana revealed her next album will arrive on September 5 along with two new poetry books:

As we mentioned earlier, the note’s opening remarks were met with a heaping amount of criticism as many fans feel like Lana could’ve made her point without tearing others down! It’s worthy to note she mentioned several Black entertainers who’ve received their fair share of flak over the years, too. Maybe she just didn’t notice when right-wing fanatics specifically targeted these women or when they were unfairly judged by their male and female peers? Hmmm.

The performer became the #1 trending topic on Twitter after remarks like these (below) came pouring in:

Yeah… like we said, these reactions weren’t pretty, but they sure do make a point! Do U agree with what fans are saying online, Perezcious readers? Did Lana bury her point by throwing all that unnecessary shade?
