Lana Del Rey Says Critics Are Trying To Start A 'Race War' - While Doubling Down On Double Standard Claims!

Lana Del Rey really hopes she didn’t accidentally start a race war with her controversial Instagram post — not that she blames herself!

As we reported, the Summertime Sadness singer got heat last week after posting a long rant claiming her music is critiqued more harshly than the works of artists like Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat, Cardi B, and other celebrated female artists. And because many of the artists Lana used in her post were women of color, many people on Instagram put her on blast for what they perceived as a racist rant.

The New York City native tried to clarify her remarks in a series of follow-up comments, but it appears she still feels like she hasn’t been heard, because LDR resurfaced on Monday to once again try to diffuse the situation — and once again only made the situation worse!

Lana began the selfie-style recording (below) by insisting once again the singers she initially referenced were her “friends, peers and contemporaries.” But the clip turned ugly when the Grammy nominee accused her critics of trying to use her words to start a “race war.”

She said:

“You can call me whatever. I’m sorry that I didn’t add one 100% Caucasian person into the mix of the women that I admire, but it really says more about you than it does about me.”

Then she took an extra step, saying:

“I just want to say the culture’s super sick right now, and the fact that they want to turn my post — my advocacy for fragility — into a race war, it’s really bad.”

A race war?? Really?

And it seems it wasn’t just fans who didn’t take her side. She seemed to admit some of the artists in question disagreed with her take in a sort of non-apology:

“I’m sorry that a couple of the girls that I’ve talked to who are mentioned in that post have a super different opinion of my insight, especially because we’ve been so close for so long.”

So she’s sorry they took it the wrong way?

However, LDR also reiterated her issue was never with the artists she mentioned, but the critics who treat her differently from them, making yet another controversial statement:

“But the difference is, when I get on the pole, people call me a whore, but when [fellow singer] FKA Twigs gets on the pole, it’s art.”

Hmm… She knows she happened to pick a woman of color, and this is all going to start up again, right?

In a separate post over the weekend, Lana made it clear her comments are directed at “female critics and female alternative artists who are dissociated from their own fragility and sexuality.”

According to Lana’s recent post, these sexually dissociated critics have been targeting “sexually liberated artists like [herself] and the women [she] mentioned,” and really all she wants is to “have control of [her] own story.”

Sounds like she wants to have control of how people react to her story, too…
