LeBron James has been getting that social media backlash after posting lyrics that many have deemed not kosher.
The NBA star issued an apology a day after typing the lyrics, “We been getting that Jewish money, Everything is Kosher” — a line from the 21 Savage song ASMR — on his Instagram Story on top of a clip that showed him riding in a car rocking a purple LA Lakers sweatshirt.

Shortly after the Lakers lost to the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, the athlete told ESPN:
“Apologies, for sure, if I offended anyone. That’s not why I chose to share that lyric. I always [post lyrics]. That’s what I do. I ride in my car, I listen to great music, and that was the byproduct of it… So I actually thought it was a compliment, and obviously it wasn’t through the lens of a lot of people. My apologies. It definitely was not the intent, obviously, to hurt anybody.”
While LeBron may have been simply trying to share he’s making money, many felt the lyrics were irresponsible to post, seeing as the line also perpetuates the age-old stereotype depicting Jews as greedy penny pinchers.
One of these critics was sports reporter Darren Rovell, who tweeted:
Surprised LeBron, who makes very few mistakes, put this out. Does quoting lyrics from a song absolve the person quoting from the responsibility behind the words? I’d argue no, especially with a following of 45 million. pic.twitter.com/efv9gkXres
