While at a press junket for her new movie Country Strong this weekend, Leighton Meester announced that she knew exactly when her Gossip Girl character, Blair Waldorf, would be making her exit from the show.
We had our ears perked up for some juicy spoilers and some shocking plot twists, but alas, Leighton simply was confirming that she indeeds to leave the show once her contract is up, which isn’t for another two years.
We hear your sighs of relief, fans, but we also sense your dismay. Could this mean there are only two years left of The CW’s Upper East Side shenanigans?
Nothing is for certain on that end, though Leighton offered this cliche as an answer:
“I don’t know, but I think there’s that old saying about wanting to go out on top.”
Hmm. That’s a good point- except you guys haven’t been on top since your first season, so…
Well, maybe things will take a turn for them. After all, this season has been far superior to past ones. We’re actually really looking forward to it returning in the new year.
Still, we think having an end in sight would be a good thing, too. Wrap up the show with the whole original cast intact and with a solid, throughly worked-out story.
