Liam Hemsworth Says 'Exercise' Helped Him Stay 'Balanced' After Miley Cyrus Split

Liam Hemsworth found refuge at the gym after his split from Miley Cyrus.

Liam Hemsworth is opening up about what really kept him sane through his split from ex-wife Miley Cyrus.

Although the former couple called it quits nearly eight months ago and finalized their divorce in February, fans will recall how they were linked to each other for the better half of the last decade. A breakup that major certainly requires some self-care to overcome (or a new partner to get under) and for the Hunger Games star, that meant diving head-first into working on himself!

The 30-year-old Aussie reflected on his divorce, upcoming projects, and stunning new physique in the upcoming May issue for Men’s Health Australia. In the cover story, Liam highlighted a particular phrase to describe how the gym has played an integral part in coping with the end of his marriage:

“Rebuilding? Yeah, that’s a good way to put it.”

Hemsworth is in the best shape of his life right now, and it’s not only because the actor is trying to serve up his best post-breakup revenge body. Getting into tip-top shape for his new Quibi gig, a thriller called Most Dangerous Game, also served as motivation to get his mind off of Miley:

“I spent most of the project running around the streets and getting beaten up as well. But it was a great thing ’cause it just kept me moving. I was doing like, 10 [kilometers] a day or something at one point, which I’ve never done in my life.”

Chris Hemsworth‘s younger brother said he is proud of his physical transformation and grateful for the focus and refuge training gave him while his personal life was in disarray:

“This last six months, honestly, for keeping my head level and just staying balanced, I’d say exercise has been big for me.”

The actor’s trainer, Jason Walsh, told Men’s Health that his client endured grueling training sessions to train for the Quibi series, but noted that Liam’s newfound happiness (presumably thanks in part to new bae Gabriella Brooks) has been the biggest factor in his physical fitness:

“I can’t believe how well his body responds when he’s not going through stuff. I haven’t seen him this happy for a long time. We took advantage of that.”

Glad to hear it! Speaking of the new romantic pair, a source told Us Weekly the Killerman star “feels more at home with Gabriella than he did with Miley and feels like he can be his complete self without any drama.” As you’ll likely recall, Cyrus moved on with Kaitlynn Carter and then again with Cody Simpson after the big divorce. Liam enjoyed some time with Dynasty star Maddison Brown before getting more serious with Brooks:

“Gabriella helped Liam boost his confidence and played an encouraging role in his life after his split with Miley. They are very happy together and it’s comfortable and easy.”

Although the two initially planned to take things slowly, a different outsider told HollywoodLife.com things just seemed to fall right into place for them:

“Gabby and Liam both came into this fresh out of serious relationships, so it is surprising how quickly things progressed. But it all happened so naturally. They have friends in common in Sydney and in L.A., so blending into each other’s lives has been seamless. It’s obvious they’re really into each other and they are definitely exclusive.”

Sounds like a healthy relationship to us! Before you go, ch-ch-check out Liam’s hunky cover here:
