It’s officially over.
Liam Hemsworth has filed for divorce from Miley Cyrus amid news of their separation, this according to TMZ on Wednesday.

The Hunger Games actor’s legal papers were put through in LA, with him citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reasoning. This update comes just 11 days after the actress’ rep confirmed their split to the media.
Luckily, the outlet added the estranged husband and wife had a prenup in place, so there shouldn’t be any drama over who gets what when it comes to money. Although, it’s unclear if their collection of animals were ever included.
It had been previously reported family members seemingly hoped Miley and Liam would treat the breakup as just a break, but clearly that’s no longer the case.
TMZ‘s sources say Hemsworth is “over the marriage” and wants to get on with his life.
Cyrus has already moved on as fans have seen!
As we previously reported earlier today, insiders have said to People how the 26-year-old singer just wants to do her own thing right now:
“Miley is doing okay. It’s a relief the [breakup] news is out publicly so she can live her life and focus on herself.”
She’s been having herself quite the #HotGirlSummer with Kaitlynn Carter after all!
A different insider added:
“Miley doesn’t talk about Liam much and is not dwelling in the past. She doesn’t want to hide, and her mood has changed drastically. She seems much more relaxed and happy.”
It must feel freeing to live your life without trying to hide the tension of a failed marriage, especially now her estranged husband has made it official.
Still, the Mother’s Daughter songstress thinks their separation was “the right decision,” according to the source:
“She just wants them to both be as healthy as possible.”
Perhaps this divorce is a step in the right direction, though it’s sad there’s apparently no chance of reconciliation.
Think Cyrus’ recently released track Slide Away had anything to do with it?? Miley took the chance to tell her side of things, singing:
“I want my house in the hills / Don’t want the whiskey and pills / I don’t give up easily / But I don’t think I’m down / So won’t you slide away / Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights.”
While the “whiskey and pills” lyric is seemingly referencing the 29-year-old actor’s partying ways, a source dished to People how Miley “isn’t trying to hurt” her former love with the song.
The insider explained:
“Her song was her way of telling her story without having to say anything at all. She isn’t trying to bash him, but she wants to be able to share what she’s been going through.”
Ahead of its release, Liam released a lone statement on their breakup to his Instagram, writing:
“Hi all
Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward.
This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false.
Peace and Love.”
