Lisa Kudrow Says She Felt Like A 'Mountain' Next To 'Friends' Costars Jennifer Aniston & Courteney Cox

Lisa Kudrow opens up about body image struggles while filming 'Friends.''

Friends alum Lisa Kudrow is getting real about body image.
On Monday, the 55-year-old actress appeared on Marc Maron‘s WTF podcast where she opened up about the struggles to maintain her weight while starring in the iconic comedic sitcom.

The Phoebe Buffay portrayer admitted that seeing herself on TV in friends was difficult for her, especially because of the stark difference in height between her and her costars Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox.
She candidly revealed:

“You see yourself on TV and it’s that, ‘Oh, my God, I’m just a mountain of a girl.’ I’m already bigger than Courteney and Jennifer — bigger, my bones feel bigger. I just felt like this mountain of a woman next to them.”

Considering the fact that Kudrow is five feet and eight inches tall and a full three inches taller than her on-screen gal pals, she’s absolutely right that she is in fact taller. But a “mountain”? That’s a pretty harsh way to put it.

Kudrow went on to say that for a time she maintained being “too thin” even though it made her physically sick. Sharing a dose of reality about the entertainment biz, she noted that a slimmer figure was considered part of the norm.

“Unfortunately for a woman, if you’re underweight, you look good and that’s all I ever got. When I was too thin, I was sick all the time with colds, sinus infections, some kind of flu. I was always sick.”

Wow. The funny woman confidently portrayed her iconic character so well, it’s pretty surprising to hear that she struggled behind-the-scenes in this way.
But at the same time, we can acknowledge that the pressure of being on a TV show as big as Friends would likely cause any actor to have second thoughts about themselves. And it makes us appreciate the relatable star even more!

Luckily, it’s been over a decade since Friends wrapped, and the BoJack Horseman voice actor says she’s in a much better headspace about her body. While noting that the journey to feeling good in her own skin is ongoing, she praises her body’s natural changes instead of resisting them.
She explained on the podcast, saying:

“I have a whole battle all the time. I end up with, ‘So what? So alright. You’re older. That’s a good thing. Why is that a bad thing?'”
