You can take that allowance and shove it, Mom and Dad! Because 17-year-old Lorde just signed a new publishing deal that’s worth some $ERIOUS cash!
With her hit single Royals rising all the way to #1, it’s no surprise that there was an all out bidding war between companies to win the singer’s signature on their dotted line!
In the end, Lorde went with boutique house Songs Music Publishing, giving them the rights to license all of her music, in a deal that is reported to have paid Lorde up to $2.5 million!!!
Woah! Who knew singing about not having any money could make you a millionaire!
Songs Music also has deals with Nelly, Bright Eyes, Diplo and The Weeknd. Lorde’s manager Tim Youngson explained how that list of in-house talent really helped her decide on who to sign with.
Youngson said:
“Even before signing her [Sounds Music] were bringing her options for collaborations and introducing her to other songwriters. The decision wasn’t made on money.├óΓé¼┬¥
Mmm, maybe not but there’s no discounting the dough our little Kiwi just made!
