Lorde oh Lorde, you got some ‘splaining to do!
The pop phenom has had some choice words for her fellow female singers recently!
First, she threw some shade at Selena Gomez, saying she was sick of hearing Selenita’s hit song Come & Get It!
Now Lorde is making headlines for calling out Taylor Swift!
So what’s her beef with Swifty??
She’s too perfect!
Lorde recently compared her influence on young girls to TayTay’s. And the difference between them comes down to looks! Lorde remarked:
“Taylor Swift is so flawless, and so unattainable, and I don’t think it’s breeding anything good in young girls. ‘I’m never going to be like Taylor Swift, why can’t I be as pretty as Lorde?’ That’s f*cking bullshit.”
Uh oh…
Careful what you say, little Lorde. You might end up getting a song written about you!
Hold up though, T. Swift. Don’t start penning your revenge tune yet. Lorde took to her blog today to clear up any confusion about what she said.
It’s not that she thinks Taylor isn’t a good role model for young fans, it’s just that young fans are being taught to put too much importance on the wrong things. Lorde explained why she singled out Taylor, saying:
“i think i cocked that up a bit and what i said wasn├óΓé¼Γäót put in context also. what i meant was: there├óΓé¼Γäós a lot of importance placed on physical perfection in this industry, and i wish my favourite stars didn├óΓé¼Γäót look perfect because i think fans (me included) have these feelings of worthlessness, like they├óΓé¼Γäóll never be as pretty/talented/whatever, as a result of this intense photoshop culture and the endless strive for perfection. ts was the first person i thought of, which i regret. she happens to be good looking, but i think she actually uses her other imperfections in an incredibly powerful and relatable way. taylor swift has a very unique vision, which i admire. i think somewhere along the line also there was a misquote where people got the impression i thought writing about love was shameful. i don├óΓé¼Γäót! i just haven├óΓé¼Γäót found a way of doing it which is powerful and innovative, which is why i don├óΓé¼Γäót.
ps. i am very very new to this whole thing. i will probably never be the kind of role model for my fans that ts is for hers. i admire her very much for this reason. basically, this is an apology for not thinking too hard before i speak. peace.”

Second, how does a 16-year-old come up with a response that elegant?! You may be new at this, gurl, but you’re already a PRO!
