Lori Loughlin Celebrates Birthday With 'Small Celebration' As Criminal Trial Looms

It’s easy to celebrate your birthday when you’re a beloved TV star with a happy, healthy family that isn’t embroiled in an enormous national scandal.

But how do you mark the milestone when it may well be your last one as a free woman for a while?

After all, the idea of trying to blow out birthday cake candles through that visitation area glass has to put a damper on the party vibe…

That’s the situation Lori Loughlin found herself in on Sunday when she turned 55 years old just four months after becoming the face of the college admissions scandal.

50 people were indicted as part of Operation Varsity Blues, an investigation into an alleged network through which unscrupulous parents bribed college officials and test proctors to help their children get in. But Lori was definitely the most famous.

As the sweet Aunt Becky on Full House, the actress endeared herself to multiple generations of American audiences — and for her to stand accused of such a crime, well that only made the whole thing more shocking.

Well, while it turns out the star of oh so many family friendly Hallmark movies may not have kept within the confines of strict legal behavior, she hasn’t turned her back on her wholesome image.

She spent the first part of her birthday going to church of all things!

Lori and her hubby, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, were spotted attending Sunday services at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Los Angeles.

And they apparently aren’t just putting up a front for potential jury members. (Well, probably not anyway.) A source told People the couple are regular attendees at the Catholic church and have been since way before their alleged crimes:

“They try to go every Sunday. This is the church they have been coming to for years. They are getting support at the church. They were approached by other churchgoers and people seem genuinely supportive.”

We wonder if you have to say more Hail Marys for a $500,000 bribe than a lesser one…

The source goes on to say Lori did have a party of sorts — what the insider called a “small celebration” at home after church.

Just the family, including daughters Bella and Olivia Jade, and a few friends.

Per the source:

“The family is still very close.”

We’ve actually heard Lori’s relationship with daughter Olivia has gotten better of late. So, that’s a silver lining we guess…

In fact, the YouTube star and her sister dropped their first Instagram posts since the scandal broke just to wish her mom a happy bday. Olivia’s may have been a few hours late, but she had a message of love, along with a very sweet throwback pic:

Lori and Mossimo chose not to plead guilty as many others involved in the scheme have. Instead they continue to maintain their innocence as the criminal trial looms.

But at least for one day they got to take a break from that stress and enjoy some birthday festivities.

How do YOU think Aunt Becky’s trial will end??
