Say it ain’t so!
On Wednesday, Maggie Gyllenhaal revealed in an interview that she recently lost a role because she was told she was too old! What the what?!

The 37-year-old shared:

“There are things that are really disappointing about being an actress in Hollywood that surprise me all the time.
I’m 37 and I was told recently I was too old to play the lover of a man who was 55. It was astonishing to me. It made me feel bad, and then it made me feel angry, and then it made me laugh.”

Though the Oscar nominee was able to laugh it off — we think we’re still angry!!
Unfortunately, this is a long standing problem in Hollywood. Remember when Amy Poehler teased Patricia Arquette for her role in Boyhood at this year’s Golden Globes?!
The Parks and Recreation star quipped:

“Patricia Arquette is here, so wonderful. So, so wonderful in the film Boyhood. Boyhood proves there are still great roles for women over 40, as long as you get hired when you’re under 40.”

HA!
Gyllenhaal decided to take the high road and chose not to reveal the specific project.
Nonetheless, the brunette beauty is getting quite a bit of Emmy buzz for her role in the mini-series, The Honourable Woman.
She continued:

“A lot of actresses are doing incredible work right now, playing real women, complicated women. I don’t feel despairing at all. And I’m more looking with hope for something fascinating.”

Rock on, sister!
We wonder what brother, Jake Gyllenhall has to think about his sister’s struggles?!
We can only imagine he’s pissed.
Maggie, keep doing you girl. We foresee many more roles (and awards) in your future!
