Why Tom Holland Will NEVER Host Saturday Night Live!

You’ll likely never see Tom Holland take on the hosting role of SNL!

As much as fans would love to see the Spider-Man star take to the famous Studio 8H as a host of Saturday Night Live, Tom has thoughts on the position. He explained in an episode of Amy Poehler‘s Good Hang podcast on Tuesday that he experiences some struggles that would prevent him from ever wanting to take on an SNL monologue:

“I’m heavily dyslexic.”

When Amy asked if it was the “cue cards” that made Zendaya‘s man hesitate, he confirmed it was exactly that:

“I’m so petrified at the concept of trying to read something and then they change [it]. For me, I can read fine, but when I have to read out loud, it just becomes like a kind of—it’s like a mental block—and I can freeze.”

Aww… That’s completely understandable. And nothing to be ashamed of.

If you’re not familiar with dyslexia, the International Dyslexia Association defines the “language-based learning disability” as “a cluster of symptoms, which result in people having difficulties with specific language skills, particularly reading”. People who have dyslexia can experience symptoms such as trouble “spelling, writing, and pronouncing words”.

Because of this fear, Tom says he’s even turned down Lorne Michaels‘ offer to host several times:

“I’ve been really lucky that they’ve asked me a few times to do it, and the truth is that I’m actually just really scared. I love the show, and I love the idea of having fun and making a fool of yourself in such a fun, creative way. It’s just that thing of the cue cards.”

The actor also said his struggles with dyslexia hinder his movie roles, but he pushes through:

“For me, my worst day at work is the read-through. I will really try and highlight everything and learn my lines ahead of time so that I’m more skimming it than I am reading it.”

Amy encouraged Tom to face his fears, though! She said:

“You have to remember, there have been people that have hosted that have been fully on drugs. I think you can do it.”
