Over a year later, the feud is back on!
Last May a French graffiti artist named Kidult tagged the word “ART” in hot pink all over Marc Jacobs‘s storefront in Soho, the image of which Jacobs proceeded to imprint on t-shirts and then sell for $686.
On Monday, Kidult was back at it, tagging Jacobs’s boutique in Paris with the numbers “686” in neon green, clearly a dig at the original price tag.
Once again the insolent tagger posted an image (above) of the deed on his Twitter, saying:
“680? 689?…686?! How much are you going to sell this for? #kidultarmyparis
#thisisnotart”
But Jacobs and his team weren’t mad this time either! Within hours they had t-shirts made (above) with a cheeky tweet saying:
“We’ll debut our new t-shirt tmrw! $686 unsigned, $430 signed. Price set by @therealkidult. Only @ #MarcJacobsParis”
Ha!
Later some Jacobs employees, including Robert Duffy, tweeted a pic (below) of themselves all wearing white baseball caps with 686 “tagged” on them, and said:
“Celebrating @therealkidult in #Paris tonight. Our hats off to you.”
Unless they’re secretly in on it together, it must be frustrating for Kidult that his vandalism isn’t ruffling any feathers, but actually being used to turn a profit.
It helps that Marc doesn’t take himself too seriously. We can’t imagine Hedi Slimane having the same reaction.
Ball’s in your court now, Kidult!
