Madonna's Masterpiece Isn't Eligible For An Oscar For Best Song

Such a bummer!
Madonna‘s Golden Globe winning song Masterpiece is not eligible to be nominated for an Academy Award!
Madge’s manager broke the news to her fans with a tweet reading:

“Madonna’s Golden Globe award winning song ‘Masterpiece’ from W.E. does not qualify for an Oscar as it did not meet eligibility requirements.”

The requirements are pretty minimal, but a technicality threw a monkey wrench in the Material Girl’s Oscar dreams.
According to the Academy, songs must “consist of words and music, both of which are original and used specifically for the film; and be used either in the body of the film, or as the “first music cue” in the closing credits.”
The only thing preventing a nomination is the fact that the song is the second, not the first, featured in the film’s closing credits!
Talk about a “D’oh!”
It’s a damn shame Madonna and the producers of her film didn’t think of this before they released it! After all, the Queen of Pop has done just about EVERYTHING except win an Oscar.
Oh well. She’s got plenty of years left and we’re confident this won’t be the last song she writes for a film that isn’t up for award consideration!
