Did Matt Damon Just Say Gay Actors Should Stay In The Closet?!

isn’t the only star who thinks an actor’s sexuality is none of your business!
In a recent interview, Matt Damon revealed he thinks that “people shouldn’t know anything” about an actor’s sexuality!
The Martian star was the subject of gay rumors himself back in 1997, when he and Ben Affleck emerged on the scene with their Oscar winning film Good Will Hunting.

Now, the 44-year-old admits he hated being asked.
In fact, he says having to deny that he was gay felt like he was offending the LGBT community. He said:

“It’s just like any piece of gossip├óΓé¼┬ª and it put us in a weird position of having to answer, you know what I mean? Which was then really deeply offensive. I don’t want to, like [imply] it’s some sort of disease ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ then it’s like I’m throwing my friends under the bus.”

Damon also revealed that from his point of view, during that time in Hollywood, being publicly gay was a potential career killer. He used Rupert Everett as an example:

“At the time, I remember thinking and saying, Rupert Everett was openly gay and this guy ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ more handsome than anybody, a classically trained actor ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ it’s tough to make the argument that he didn’t take a hit for being out.”

Even today, Damon thinks an actor’s sexuality shouldn’t be publicly known — because the mystery makes for a better actor! He explained:

“I think you’re a better actor the less people know about you period. And sexuality is a huge part of that. Whether you’re straight or gay, people shouldn’t know anything about your sexuality because that’s one of the mysteries that you should be able to play.”

Hmmm… we’re not sure what to make of this.
On the one hand, we agree that an actor shouldn’t have to publicly reveal their sexuality
But it kind of sounds like Matt is implying that all gay actors would be better off staying in the closet for the sake of their careers!
What do YOU think?
