Philanthropist and actor Matt Damon joined the Save Our Schools March in Washington D.C. on Saturday to protest the use of standardized testing throughout the education system.
In a heartfelt speech to his fellow protestors, the bald Hollywood star shared:
“As I look at my life today, the things that I value about myself, my imagination, my love of acting, my passion for writing, my love of learning, my curiosity, came from the way that I was parented and taught. And none of these qualities that I just mentioned, none of these qualities that I prize so deeply, none of these qualities that have brought me so much joy, that have made me so successful professionally, none of these qualities that make me who I am can be tested. Now don├óΓé¼Γäót get me wrong. I did have a brush with standardized tests at one point. I remember because my mom went to the principal├óΓé¼Γäós office and said, ├óΓé¼╦£My kid ain├óΓé¼Γäót taking that. It├óΓé¼Γäós stupid, it won├óΓé¼Γäót tell you anything and it├óΓé¼Γäóll just make him nervous.├óΓé¼Γäó That was in the ├óΓé¼Γäó70s when you could talk like that.├óΓé¼┬¥
Matt is especially close to this cause because his mother was a public school teacher. He expressed his appreciation for her and every other educator like her in America today by saying:
├óΓé¼┼ôWe love you, we thank you and we will always have your back.”
Teacher’s pet! LOLz! Just kidding!
Thank you for not only this effort, but ALL of the philanthropy you do to make this world a better place, Matt!
