Fame does a whole bunch of awful things to people, along with all the good. It happens a lot — you sky-rocket into popularity, and then you find outlets for the stress that comes with it.
For Matthew Perry, it was during Friends, and it was alcohol and drugs. Here’s what he said:
“Mostly it was drinking, you know, and opiates. I think I was pretty good at hiding it but, you know, eventually people were aware.”
He even had to go to rehab more than once, and the public saw the whole thing. He continued:
“I honestly recoil. It’s scary to look at that. I was a sick guy. I couldn’t just walk into a bar. Everybody in the bar would go, ‘You, you can’t do that. I just read that you can’t do that. You can’t. You can’t.”
Now that he’s sober, Matthew is using that power to do some good — and he’s helping other addicts find a way to get clean. He even turned his former home into a sober living home, where addicts can transition from rehab to the real world again! He was even honored at the White House earlier this month with the Champion of Recovery award from the Obama Administration├óΓé¼Γäós Office of National Drug Control Policy!
If that isn’t a turnaround, we don’t know what is!
Now if we could only get Matthew a show that would stick around as long as Friends did!
We think he kinda deserves it! Ha!
