We are so glad he’s opening up!
In a recent video published by The Hollywood Reporter, Matthew Perry discusses his 30-year-long struggle with drug and alcohol addiction.
And mostly, the clip talked about the importance of treatment centers, notably the Phoenix House in Venice, CA.

The 46-year-old confesses:

“You can’t have a drug problem for 30 years and then expect to have it be solved in 28 days.”

So true!
What made his journey to recovery even more difficult was the fact that he was on the hit show Friends, where everyone in America could see him battle with his demons.

“I’m a pretty private person, but I was on a TV show that 30 million people were watching. So people knew. It was so public what was happening to me.”

The funny man went to rehab twice — once in 1997 for a Vicodin addiction and a second time in 2001 for alcohol and pills.
Fast forward to now, the thespian credits these facilities for helping him get clean.

“Treatment centers are important because they sort of separate the addict from their environment where they were using.”

We greatly applaud Matthew’s honesty and we hope his message helps those in need.
