Meghan Markle can’t catch a break!
Just hours after announcing the rebrand of her upcoming lifestyle company, the Duchess of Sussex was called out for copying her new logo from… a Spanish town?! Huh??
What was formerly known as American Riviera Orchard will now be called As Ever — something we may struggle not to say in the voice of Cher from Clueless.
While Meg claims the change was based on feeling limited by what she could produce under the first moniker, it’s likely also due to trademark issues. Unfortunately for the Duchess, she seems to have jumped out of the frying pan and into the olla. That’s a Spanish cooking pot… Look, it’ll all make sense.

See, the rebrand came not just with a new name but also with a new logo. It features a palm tree with two hummingbirds on the side. Apparently, the palm tree was picked to represent Santa Barbara, where she lives, and the hummingbirds are meaningful to Prince Harry after having been visited by one after the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Very sweet and sentimental… if only the design wasn’t so problematic now!
The problem? Fans on Reddit quickly noticed the logo is VERY similar to the Coat of Arms of Porreres on the island of Majorca (AKA Mallorca) in Spain. They have almost the same icons, even in a shield — only Porreres’ logo is in color. See the comparison (below) with Meghan’s on the left and the Coat of Arms on the right:
Spanish town 'considers legal action' against Meghan Markle after logo for her luxury brand 'As Ever' bares striking similarities to its coat of arms https://t.co/wNXlea3wMX

Yeah, those are CRAZY close! Addressing this, Nick Ede, a brand and culture expert, told The Sun on Monday:
“Yes the logo that she has used for the new brand As Ever is clearly very similar to the coat of arms for an area of Majorca. This is another brand set back as it looks like its been copied rather than a whole new brand identity created. This may potentially create copyright issues and a further headache for Meghan and her team.”
But it might cause her more than just a “headache” — because the town is considering legal action! Mayor Francisca Mora told local outlet Ara Balears that the likeness is “surreal” and that the town hall is deciding whether or now they will sue the royal over it. She explained:
“I don’t know if she visited some agritourism sites and saw the coat of arms, because the photo on her website is taken from Mallorca.”
Sorry, wait — there’s a photo of Mallorca on her site, too?! Oh, come on!
Whether or not they sue, the mayor hopes this will bring much-needed attention to the area, adding that the town now “feels international,” sharing:
“I hope many people around the world will become aware that in Mallorca there is an inland town that has this coat of arms.”
Doing some kind of partnership could be one way to avoid this controversy! But we doubt things’ll play out so easily with Meghan…
You’d think after all the messes associated with ARO, her team would’ve done their due diligence to make sure this new launch went off without a hitch, but they clearly didn’t do enough digging!!
