Meghan Markle & Prince Harry's Charity Work Is Keeping Princess Diana's Memory 'Very Much Alive'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are continuing to connect with their new home through charity work!

The couple has been lying low since relocating to the City of Angels, except for when they’re doing volunteer work! In addition to working with former presidential candidate Marianne Williamson‘s charity, they recently got involved with another Los Angeles-based group, Homeboy Industries, and it’s very much in line with the work Princess Diana was so passionate about.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl shared with ET:

“Some people might wonder why Harry is getting so involved with something like Homeboy [Industries], which is such a L.A.-based, centric initiative. But it is a charity. It is an organization for those who are marginalized by society, those who have no hope, those who society simply want to dismiss.”

She added:

“And I think in that sense, we are seeing Harry do exactly the sort of work that his mother, Diana, did. She was there for those that society just wanted to reject and ignore, and in that respect, I think Harry and Meghan are really keeping Diana’s memory and her work very much alive in what they are doing today.”

So sweet!! We really think she would be proud of both of her boys!

Carlos Nieto of Homeboy spoke with ET about the 20-minute warning they got ahead of the special visit, adding that he took note of the Mexican-style sandals the Duchess was rocking:

“The first thing I noticed with Meghan was she was wearing huaraches. And I was like, ‘Wow, that’s totally cool.’ And then Harry comes in and they came right next to me… and yeah, they’re very, very nice.”

He continued:

“They were just down to earth. They were really, really grounded. Super nice. [Meghan was] very sincere. Both of them were… The way they came in they were just so humble. Like someone just down the street, just super chill.”

In addition to working in the café and bakery with a side of conversation, they prepared food for the org’s #FeedHOPE program, which employs participants to provide food-insecure seniors and youth with meals in the wake of the pandemic.

Nieto shared:

“They were definitely hands-on. When they came out of the bakery, they were wearing their aprons and hairnets and stuff… They had flour on them and I was like, they’re definitely hands-on, you know, and they’re in it.”

We love to hear it!! And their team was definitely impressed by how involved they were during the visit, Carlos explained:

“They’re amazing people. They’re inspiring people. For them to walk the walk that they’re walking right now, they’re trailblazers.”

All of this is part of the bigger plan of world domination… JK, just Los Angeles!! Nicholl explained to ET that “what we’re seeing with Harry and Meghan is them laying down their roots.” She added:

“Finding out the organizations and charities they want to work with, signing up with the Harry Walker Agency is a big sign that we’re going to see and hear more from them. I’m not convinced we’ll see them sit down and do a big television interview. If we do again, I think it will be to put the spotlight on something important to them, such as the Black Lives Matter campaign. It’s not going to be to sit down and spill the beans about life in the royal family.”

Any thoughts on Meg and Harry’s latest charitable endeavor, y’all?? Let us know (below) in the comments!!
