Prince Harry‘s beloved mother Princess Diana was top of mind during his trip to Australia!
Harry and Meghan Markle touched down Down Under early on Tuesday and went straight to Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne to kick off their faux royal tour of the country. There, they walked hand-in-hand as they were greeted by a large crowd of patients and caregivers, all thrilled to see them. The couple took selfies and chatted with folks.

Such a big turnout!
Professor Christine Kilpatrick AO (Officer of the Order of Australia), the Board Chair of The Royal Children’s Hospital, told People it was a massive success:
“Look around and you can see the crowds of people, the smiles on their faces and what it means to them. Everyone is absolutely delighted. … You can’t measure the morale boost, but it is palpable. Many of these patients have been here for quite some time and are often very frequent visitors to the hospital, a joy like this is wonderful for them.”
Amazing! It’s so important to give joy and hope to patients, their families, and all the doctors and nurses working tirelessly to help.
While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex love supporting a variety of organizations, this hospital holds a special place in the Spare author’s heart. The visit appeared to be a nod to his late mother!
Diana and King Charles III visited Royal Children’s Hospital back in October 1985 during their 13-day tour of Australia. In photos, Diana could be seen at a young patient’s bedside as they engaged with patients and employees just like Harry and Meg. How nice to carry on the tradition! After this stop, they went to meet veteran families at the Australian National Veterans’ Art Museum, and the Suits alum served a meal at the Homeless Services for Women Centre. They will also head to Canberra and Sydney during their travels. Ch-ch-check out some highlights of their visit:
