Sometimes, those in charge of protecting very important people — like members of the royal family — can get just a little carried away in their duties when it comes to offering guidance and security!
That appears to be the case this week for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who are now facing criticism over a VERY strict set of rules sent to their neighbors around their Frogmore Cottage home, apparently by an “overly protective palace official.” In a bid to protect the privacy of the royal couple and young Master Archie, it appears at least one royal fam official went a BIT too far…

The controversy started on Friday, when the U.K. newspaper The Sun reported that “people living near the Duke and Duchess’ neighbors Frogmore Cottage home, which include members of the royal staff, attended a recent residents’ meeting and there, they were informed not to approach or speak to the couple, not to touch their dogs, and not ask to see their baby boy Archie or offer to babysit him,” according to a report published by E! News.
But according to a Buckingham Palace spokesperson who opened up about the ordeal to HELLO! Magazine, the very strict rules request actually came from an “overly protective palace official.” Furthermore, per the Palace, Harry and Meghan apparently never even knew the request had been made of their neighbors! Hardly seems fair to criticize Meghan and Harry if they didn’t even know about the strict rules in the first place, but maybe that’s just us…
The Buckingham Palace official said in a statement clarifying the whole situation (below):
“The Duke and Duchess didn’t request this, didn’t know about it, and had nothing to do with the content or guidance offered.”
Wow!
So controversy turns into non-troversy in this case, at least as far as Harry and Meghan (and Master Archie!) are concerned… but still, it seems like a big deal for palace officials to be going around sharing THAT many rules with the fam’s new neighbors! Talk about announcing your presence in a less-than-ideal way, right?!
