Unsurprisingly, baby Archie was a huge factor in Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s decision to step back from their royal responsibilities.
Sources close to Meg shared with TMZ the Duchess of Sussex was aware her fame would be heightened upon her marriage, but she underestimated how much scrutiny she’d face in the media and how little control she’d have over press coverage. And once the couple welcomed their son in May, things only got more difficult.

In comparison to Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been extremely private with their little one, only taking him out on one official event so far. Otherwise, the photos we’ve seen of the Harry lookalike have been limited to paparazzi shots and select images released by the Sussexes.
Per the publication, not only did the British media expect to be allowed to publish snaps of the youngest royal, but the taxpayers in a way also felt a right to see photos of and learn details about the family of three.
For the Suits alum the final straw has been the criticism specifically about being overly protective of her son, including breaking with recent tradition and keeping his christening a private affair. Although it’s been said the two do not read stories written about them, they are reportedly aware of headlines.
One insider explained to the outlet:
“They think if the British public aren’t contributing financially then they don’t have the same right to comment on their private life.”
However, there may already be trouble up north! As you’re likely aware, part of the negotiated terms of their stepping down includes splitting time between Canada (Vancouver Island) and the U.K. (Frogmore Cottage). Obviously, there’s a LOT of buzz surrounding Megxit as of lately and paps were able to snap a few photos of the 38-year-old on a walk with her son and two dogs on Monday ahead of Prince Harry’s arrival.
As reported by TMZ, representation for the pair sent a cease and desist letter on Tuesday to British outlets making them aware action would be taken if they publish or purchase the pics. The letter reads:
“There are serious safety concerns about how the paparazzi are driving and the risk to life they pose.”
Obviously, this is a comparison to Princess Diana who tragically passed away in 1997 after a chase with the photogs in Paris. The couple has previously referenced her death as reasoning for paparazzi to stop invading their privacy, but we’re not sure what will make them truly quit. Apparently, the photographer who got the shots was hiding in bushes and spying. They’ve also reportedly set up camp outside the couple’s Vancouver Island home, and have telephoto lenses on scene.
Canada law is less strict than the U.K. so we’re not sure they have grounds to sue — though if they do, it’s likely already in motion!
