Remember the first few months of Donald Trump‘s presidency? When the “fair” people were still telling us to give him a chance like we hadn’t heard how racist and authoritarian-leaning and crooked he was during his campaign?
There was another unprecedented aspect which had a lot of folks scratching their heads — the new President’s wife, Melania Trump, didn’t move into the White House with him. Instead, for months she continued living in the penthouse of Trump Tower in New York City, costing taxpayers a fortune in security costs as the Secret Service had to monitor TWO households, one of which was a building where no one needed clearance to get into (and in fact we later found out lots of sketchy individuals lived).

For a while they made the excuse they were waiting for then-10-year-old Barron Trump‘s school year to end or something, as if no other president had ever had school-aged children and it was some unforeseen wrinkle they couldn’t possibly overcome.
Even at the time no one bought it.
See, running for president shines a big ol’ spotlight on you as basically the entire country is trying to do a background check before hiring you. So quite a bit was exposed about the Celebrity Apprentice host, including the infamous “grab them by the p***y” hot mic incident, several accusations of harassment and worse, and an alleged affair with Playboy Playmate Karen MacDougal (the other affair, with porn star Stormy Daniels was revealed later). Most of us wondered if Melania was just done with the guy! It certainly appeared that way!

Well, according to a bombshell new book, all of that divorce ammunition may have been the exact leverage the Slovenian model was using in a big political move of her own — renegotiating her prenuptial agreement!
Yes, according to the soon-to-be-released The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump by Washington Post reporter Mary Jordan, Melania was essentially extorting the President of the United States with the bargaining chip of making him look AWFUL on the national stage. We mean, can you imagine if she’d NEVER moved to the White House? Heck, what if she denounced all the awful things he did? What if she testified?? She really did have so much leverage over the infamously unsuccessful businessman.
But to what end? What did she get?
According to the book, she stayed in NYC with the goal to “amend her financial agreement with Trump — what Melania referred to as ‘taking care of Barron.'” Jordan writes:
“She wanted proof in writing that when it came to financial opportunities and inheritance, Barron would be treated as more of an equal to Trump’s oldest three children.”
She clearly got what she was after. Melania finally moved in after five months. She went on to defend her husband’s every move and closely follow the template for a First Lady — some would say too closely, if you get our meaning.
The book, which was heavily researched with over 100 interviews, also casts doubt on some of Melania’s other claims, including her supposed college degree, her boast of speaking five languages fluently, and her claim never to have gotten plastic surgery.
Stephanie Grisham, Melania Trump’s chief of staff, responded to the news of the book’s contents by saying:
“Yet another book about Mrs. Trump with false information and sources. This book belongs in the fiction genre.”
