Melissa Etheridge Reveals 'Empty Space In My Heart' Weeks After Son Beckett's Untimely Death

Melissa Etheridge is mourning the death of her son, Beckett.

Melissa Etheridge is doing her best to cope after the untimely passing of her 21-year-old son Beckett last month.

The rock star and her family have been reeling after the young man’s death following a drug overdose. And now, in a new public statement posted to Twitter, the 58-year-old musician opens up a bit about just how difficult things have been in her beloved son’s absence.

On Monday, the Come To My Window singer revealed her difficult emotional journey over the past few weeks, writing to fans and followers alike (below):

“Hello my friends. I just wanted to update you all. I have made myself busy by fixing up my studio here in the house. It has healed me, greatly. While nothing but time will heal the empty space in my heart, I have been hopeful watching the world rise up and ask for more love … I miss you all and am so grateful for your thoughts and well wishes.”

She also announced she’d be returning to music soon, and would have more news on that front at a later date.

We can’t even imagine going through something like that… the strength, and vulnerability, and the gravity of such an event to lose a child like that… ugh.

As you’ll recall, at the time of Beckett’s death, Melissa revealed his ongoing struggle with opioid addiction, writing in a public statement:

“Today I joined the thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction. My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today. He will be missed by those who love him, his family and friends. My heart is broken.”

It was later revealed that the poor young man’s addiction began after a particularly harsh snowboarding injury. And while the rocker wished she’d been able to do more to help him beat the addiction, she admitted she found solace in the fact that he was no longer in pain. So, so sad.

Our hearts go out to Melissa, as well as filmmaker Julie Cypher, with whom the singer welcomed Beckett back in 1998. The 21-year-old was born via artificial insemination, his father having later been revealed as singer-songwriter David Crosby.

Such a terrible, terrible tragedy. Here’s hoping everyone affected by Beckett’s untimely death receives the emotional support and love they need during this difficult time period.
