The legal troubles of Michael Douglas‘ son Cameron Douglas are just never-ending.
It’s more bad news for Cameron as the troubled 33-year-old was sentenced to 4 1/2 more years in prison for drug possession WHILE he was in prison, serving his original sentencing of five years.
The actor’s son has had a very public addiction to meth, cocaine and heroin, which have landed him in jail in 1999 and in 2007.
Even though his father, as well as his stepmom Catherine Zeta-Jones and grandfather Kirk Douglas have sent letters asking for leniency, Cameron was still given a pretty long sentence.
While in court, Cameron read a letter to the New York federal Judge Richard Berman, saying this:
“I plead with you, Judge Berman, to grant me the opportunity to treat this malignant affliction. I cannot seem to find comfort within my own skin. My mind is constantly seeking relief from itself.
[I have] shame and penitence that I have once again cheated my family and my loved ones.”
He begged for mercy, telling the judge that if he gave him another chance, he would live “the rest of my life to the fullest.”
Just before his sentencing, Judge Berman described his conduct as “reckless” and “deceitful.” Grandfather Kirk lowered his head when the judge told him that he already given him his “last chance,” adding:
“He seems to have blown the biggest opportunity of his life.”
So heartbreaking – especially for his father, Michael.
But, he’s had so many chances so we understand the judge’s frustration. Let’s hope he finally learned a long, hard lesson.
