This reality star is trying to use her influence to change some impending laws.
It’s just a shame what she wants is rooted in ignorance and lack of human compassion — but we bet it’s not gonna work!
19 Kids And Counting star Michelle Duggar recently recorded a message for the residents of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and it basically asked them to support her in her attempts to strike down a vote on stopping discrimination against transgender residents and giving them more rights in their community – including public restrooms.
Michelle has somehow made a huge leap, and is now worried that “males with past child predator convictions” will now frequent women restrooms. So she’s trying to urge parents to vote down the ordinance.
The recording by the reality star and conservative Baptist was made in association with the Arkansas Family Council, whose website’s tagline is “Promoting, protecting and strengthening traditional family values in Arkansas.”
Here’s what Michelle Duggar said in full:
“The Fayetteville City Council is voting on an ordinance this Tuesday night that would allow men ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ yes, I said men ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ to use women’s and girls’ restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only. I don├óΓé¼Γäót believe the citizens of Fayetteville would want males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls. I doubt that Fayetteville parents would stand for a law that would endanger their daughters or allow them to be traumatized by a man joining them in their private space. I still believe that we are a society that puts women and children first. Women, young ladies and little girls deserve to use the restroom or any other women├óΓé¼Γäós facility in peace and safety.”
The Fayetteville city attorney, Kit Williams, claims that Michelle’s statement is just basically “fear-mongering” and defended the ordinance in a memo that said:
“The claim that this ordinance would provide predators with access to women’s restrooms in order to assault or leer at girls or women is nothing more than fear-mongering. This ordinance does allow transgender people to use the bathroom in which they feel most comfortable and physically safe. Transgender people ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ who are far more likely to be the victims of harassment and violence if forced to use a bathroom that is inconsistent with their gender identity or expression ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ deserve to have the ability to use the bathroom in peace and safety.”
We would agree with the statement that the harassment of transgender people is definitely more of a possibility happening without the passing of this ordinance than child predators suddenly frequenting everyone’s restroom if these new rules are passed.
We’re wondering if the new season of Michelle’s reality show, which airs on September 2nd, will address this matter on the show.
Michelle Duggar is entitled to her opinions, we just wish she wouldn’t go out of her way like this to convince people into agreeing.
