Wow, this story gets more inspirational by the minute!
At the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Miley Cyrus brought attention to the plight of homeless youth when she allowed a former homeless teen, Jesse Helt, to accept her award for Video of the Year.
While we heard a snippet of Jesse’s story in the acceptance speech, the fleshed out details of his experience as a homeless teen in Los Angeles is absolutely incredible.
Originally from Salem, Oregon, Jesse moved to El Lay as a teenager to make it as a model.
Jesse’s mom, Linda Helt, revealed:
“Jesse wanted to be in Los Angeles and he had opportunities and he took them, but you know, he’s had his ups and downs like anybody else. He didn’t wanna give up and run on home to mommy.”
Talk about persistence! Jesse really went to extreme lengths to achieve his dreams!
While Jesse spent some time at the homeless shelter, A Friend’s Place, there were times when his situation turned especially drastic.
Linda confessed:
“One time he called me and said, ‘Mom, I’m living in a bush!'”
Wow, how intense! We’re glad Jesse’s life is now on an upswing!
Jesse’s momma also revealed her son’s plans to return home for a visit after Miley gifted him with some cash.
Aw, we’re so glad Jesse will have the opportunity to reconnect with his mom! How amazing!
