Mindy Kaling's Brother Pretended To Be Black In Order To Get Into Medical School

This sounds like it’s straight out of a sitcom!
Mindy Kaling may be the most famous person in her family, but she’s not the only one who’s good at acting.
That’s because her older brother Vijay Chokal-Ingam shared a story about how he pretended to be black when he was applying for medical schools!
Apparently, the 38-year-old was wait-listed at all of the schools he wanted to go to when he indicated that he was Indian-American on his applications.

So, he decided to slightly alter his appearance and identify as black to see if that made any difference… and it did!
Vijay posted a photo of his applications over the weekend, saying:

“Would you rather accept racism or defy those who want to discriminate against you? I chose the latter and applied to medical school as black.
I shaved my head, trimmed my long Indian eyelashes, and applied to medical school as a black man. My change in appearance was so startling that my own fraternity brothers didn’t recognize me at first. I even joined the Organization of Black Students.”

Wow.
We’re surprised that worked, but he got what he wanted in the end!
