A mom has started a huge conversation about parenting on TikTok — after she took the extraordinary measure of CANCELING CHRISTMAS!
Mele, known on the video-making platform as melez907, shared a new video last week explaining that her daughter Maddy had some serious consequences for her bad behavior at school. The mom of two, an 11-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter, started off the video with a simple statement:
“I saw this creator that said you should cancel Christmas for kids who don’t know how to behave. And I’m gonna tell y’all this, Christmas in my house is canceled.”
Wait, what??

The mom went on to explain that the holiday festivities were “absolutely” canceled for her 5-year-old girl — but not her well-behaved 11-year-old! So what did little Maddy do that was so bad it warranted the whole holiday to be shut down? Mele didn’t really go into exactly what the girl was doing in the classroom but explained she and her kid’s dad tried to handle the behavior before, and it didn’t work. So when a letter from the school came… things got intense:
“I’m gonna tell you. I would show you, but I’m not gonna show you the long email that her teacher wrote me and her dad last week about her atrocious behavior in that schoolhouse. Now, before this email came in, the teacher had called the week before and she told us and we spoke to Maddy… We talked to Maddy, we were doing Elf on the Shelf, all of this, and none of that work[ed].”
The TikToker said she got a “fifty page email” at “5:30 in the morning” and that was the last straw. The Christmas tree came down and the Elf on the Shelf was “sent” back to the North Pole:
“She ain’t having Christmas at our house. I know that my momma might be getting her stuff, but at my house, she already knows. She lost Christmas.”

The reactions that rolled in were pretty mixed, with some agreeing that Mele was doing the perfect thing, showing her daughter the tough love she needed. But others blasted the mom for going too far:
“stand on business mama”
“That teacher woke up at 5:30 am and said NO I can’t do not another sleepless night”
“I remember Christmas being cancelled for me – my gma told me to take a shot of NyQuil and she’ll see me on the 26th”
“I did this last year and she’s having a Christmas this year. Don’t reward bad behavior and they’ll correct it once they see you’re not playing.”
“Heavy on privilege cuz growing up as a kid my mom cancelled birthdays, Christmas, EVERYTHING and wouldn’t care”
“Mom sit down and talk to her because my son had a little spurt were he was acting up but he was also being bullied and in return he started acting out . Of course the school didn’t tell me.”
“has she been seen to by a child psychologist, therapist, counsellor? have there been firm boundaries and expectations set in place with reasonable timelines to meet those expectations?”
“You’re disgusting. You have 364 other days to tame her behavior. That’s on you! Do better as a parent. Or enjoy her not wanting anything to do with you when she’s older.”
The momma ended up doing several follow-up videos after her original story went viral and cleared some things up that viewers were asking about. She revealed that she herself is a teacher, and it changed her perspective on how to punish Maddy for her misbehavior with her own teacher:
“As a teacher, when you send such an email about a student, it’s because you’ve tried everything and it’s not working. You’ve tried everything in your tool kit. As a mom, I’m very much about logical consequences for behavior.”
She also noted her daughter’s birthday was in November and she had a “good” celebration then — the main thing the momma wants is for her kiddos to understand Christmas is a “privilege” in her household. Another point she stressed was the fact she doesn’t “spank” her kids at all, so this is her version of a more serious punishment.
@melez907 Replying to @LoveSense Christmas is a privilege that she did not earn #fypシ #teachersoftiktok #caribbeantiktok #guyana???????? #christmas #momsoftiktok #momanddaughter
@melez907 Replying to @Chocoblitzz if you spank thats on you sis! #fypシ #teachersoftiktok #caribbeantiktok #guyana???????? #christmas #momsoftiktok #momanddaughter
She added that the “fifty pages” was an exaggeration — but the letter she received about Maddy’s behavior was LONG and enough to raise concern!
@melez907 Replying to @kayromi ???????????? Y’all are going off on me for this #fypシ #teachersoftiktok #caribbeantiktok #christmas #momsoftiktok #momanddaughter #education
In a final update on the situation, she showed a short video of her “innocent angel” Maddy. In a sarcastic tone, Mele criticizes the comments she’s been receiving:
“‘Don’t do it, don’t do it. Don’t you punish her bad behavior! Instead reward her bad behavior with toys and gifts and all these things!’ No.”
@melez907 My Maddy will not be celebrating Christmas this year, she is on the naughty list. #fypシ #teachersoftiktok #caribbeantiktok #christmas #momsoftiktok #momanddaughter #education #guyana????????
