EXCLUSIVE! MTV Will Honor Martin Luther King Jr. By Airing In Black & White For The First Time Ever To Get Everyone Talking About Race

Race is an issue that this needs to be talked about, and MTV is trying to get the conversation started.
This Martin Luther King Jr. Day, for the first time in the network’s history, they’ll be airing all of their programs in black and white from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The goal is jar audiences enough that they’ll begin having, what MTV is calling “The Talk ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ candid, confident and ‘color brave’ conversations on race and bias.” It’s all a part of their Look Different anti-bias campaign.
Throughout the day, monologues from people like Kendrick Lamar, Common, Big Sean, Ava DuVernay, David Oyelowo, Penn Badgley, Jordin Sparks, Pete Wentz, Sen. Rand Paul, Rep. John Lewis, and Sen. Cory Booker will air, to help get people to discuss our differences.
We have a first look at Penn Badgley’s clip for you (above)!
MTV’s President, Stephen Friedman, talked about this, saying:

“Millennials believe strongly in fairness, but they can also find it difficult to talk openly about race ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ to be not simply ├óΓé¼╦£color blind’ but ├óΓé¼╦£color brave.’ Our audience is looking for a way to bring the national conversation on race into their homes and this campaign will give them a forum to express true color bravery.”

We think this is a fantastic idea, because the key to tolerance is educating ourselves and learning to celebrate our differences!
