Prepare to put your face directly into your palm, because you’re not going to BELIEVE this flier that Zemen Elementary School in Nebraska sent home with its students!
The pamphlet was aimed at helping kids deal with bullies. But the advice outlined inside is 100% ridiculous!
Just look at Rule #7 – Do not tell on bullies!
The school actually recommends NOT to tell a teacher if you’re being bullied until you’ve been injured!
Um… how about, no?
Then there├óΓé¼Γäós Rule #4 – Don├óΓé¼Γäót verbally defend yourself.
So our mother’s advice to use our words in a fight, that was all BS? The school advises kids to instead not defend themselves because you only defend yourself from an “enemy.”
Our favorite piece of wisdom comes in Rule #9 – Learn to laugh at yourself and not get ├óΓé¼┼ôhooked├óΓé¼┬¥ by put-downs.
The flier suggests kids who are getting picked on JOIN IN on the name calling and make fun of themselves! They even offer clever comebacks for students to use, including:
“If you think I’m ugly, you should see my sister!”
or
“If you think I look like a nerd, you should see my dad!”
So the moral is: while being made fun of, make sure to throw your whole family under the bus as well!
The parents that read this handout were dumbfounded and immediately complained to the school. District officials have since issued an apology for issuing “inaccurate information.”
Unbelievable.
We hope they are at work coming up with a new flier. One that ACTUALLY protects children who are being tormented by bullies at school!
