SPOILER ALERT: Spoilers referenced (below). Duh!
How many people had The Sixth Sense ruined for them? How many of you knew Dumbledore’s fate before you got to page 596?? How many of you had the secret of Keyser S├â┬╢ze’s identity ruined in The Usual Suspects???
You MAY have been pissed off at the time, but a new study shows that people actually PREFER hearing spoilers!
According to the new study, people prefer spoilers because tension actually DETRACTS from our enjoyment while reading/watching something new!
Here are some conclusions that can be drawn from the results of the study:
– People like it when they don’t have to worry about the death of a protagonist, or the fate of lovers in a romantic comedy
– It’s all about the “narrative journey,” NOT the “final destination”
– We don’t like it when we’re fooled by a surprise…we often feel “embarrassed by our gullibility”
Do U agree with this study? Or do U like to be surprised during your reading/watching experience???
