A heartbreaking tragedy became a line of communication between Nicole Kidman and her estranged son and daughter.
As you may have heard, Nicole’s beloved mother Janelle Ann Kidman died at the age of 84 last week. Her death came just hours before Nicole was awarded Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival for her role in Babygirl; the 57-year-old sadly ended up having to leave the festival early due to her mom’s passing.

Nicole later made a heartfelt Instagram post about the situation. She wrote over the weekend:
“My sister and I along with our family want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week. Every message we have received from those who loved and admired our Mother has meant more to us than we will ever be able to express. Thank you from our whole family for respecting our privacy as we take care of each other

It’s unclear if Tom Cruise contacted his ex following the loss, but according to Woman’s Day, their adopted children did! Bella and Connor Kidman Cruise famously sided with their father after the divorce, presumably due to his connections with Scientology. They became estranged from their momma — something which has bothered her ever since. She reportedly was hoping just last year they’d attend her AFI Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony — though that felt really futile. However, after Janelle’s passing, it looks like bridges are slowly starting to be rebuilt.
An insider for the outlet said:
“The most heartwarming thing has been for Nicole to get a joint message from Bella and Connor, who she’s not heard from in a very long time. It’s kind of sad it took such a tragic moment to bring them back into her life, but she knows it would make her mum so happy if her passing brought her estranged grandkids back into the family.”

The source also made it clear that Nicole is 100% down for taking a break in the entertainment industry to give her relationship with Connor and Bella “its best shot”. Now rumors are starting to swirl that her two kids may show up for Janelle’s funeral, but that has not yet been confirmed.
