Nina Dobrev & Paul Wesley Troll Everyone After She Said They 'Despised Each Other' During 'The Vampire Diaries'

Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley may not have gotten a happy ending on The Vampire Diaries, but they got one IRL, though it wasn’t without a few bumps in the road!

Miz Dobrev recently revealed she and her on-screen love turned off-screen BFF actually didn’t get along too well at the beginning of the CW series (it actually happens to more celebs than you’d think). Some Elena and Stefan shippers were understandably saddened by her share, but luckily there’s no bad blood between them now, and they’ve got a hilarious new video together to prove it!

The two were both in Ibiza, Spain when they made light of Dobrev’s recent comments about the early TVD days and how they “despised each other so much.” Ch-ch-check out the funny vid (below):

Mr. Wesley got a kick out of it, commenting:

“Hahahaha YES!!! ❤️ you Dobreva”

So what exactly did she spill to prompt this mini-reunion? While chatting with her Vampire Diaries costars Candice King and Kayla Ewell during an episode of their podcast Directionally Challenged in June, the 30-year-old explained:

“Paul and I didn’t get along at the beginning of the show. I respected Paul Wesley, I didn’t like Paul Wesley. I remember everyone would walk up to me after the show aired and they’d be like, ‘Are you and Paul dating in real life?’ Because everyone thought that we had such good chemistry. And we despised each other so much, that it read as love. We really just didn’t get along the first maybe five months of shooting.”

She continued, sharing:

“When you work with anyone, or are spending a lot of time with anyone, little things are gonna annoy you about them. It’s like a relationship; we were basically married — we were together every day, we were kissing and doing all this stuff. But we didn’t have sex, so, yeah, just like a marriage!”

Things eventually blew over, and the two are close friends to this day:

“Maybe we had a moment where we actually connected … and he looked at me and he was like, ‘Ten years from now, when we’re not on this show, you’re gonna really miss me. You’re gonna miss these times and you’re gonna look back, and this is gonna be the good old days. We’ll appreciate each other in 10 years.’ And he’s so f**king right. We ended up getting to a good place and it was fine. But, of everyone, I think I probably see him the most and hang out with him the most … We are probably the closest. We hang out a lot. We’re really good friends. And I love his wife. It’s so funny how time changes everything because I never thought that he would be one of my best friends.”
