Love Sucks!
A love-struck woodpecker has kept residents of a quiet street awake for the last six weeks by hammering on their metal chimneys and aerials in a bid to attract a mate.
The Great Spotted Woodpecker began terrorising his neighbors since early April.
He has infuriated sleep-deprived residents by hammering on their metal chimneys and aerials as early as 5am every morning.
Engineer Colin Lang, 57, said the noisy woodpecker sounds ‘like a road drill’.
“I see him outside my bedroom window drumming on the chimney three houses away. You can hear him right down the street, it sounds like a road drill. It’s been going on for about six weeks, not every morning but when he gets going it’s a full blasted wake up call. He drums away for about five minutes looking up very pleased with himself.”
An expert said the bird would give up the pecking if his mate would give in to him.
“The females will play hard to get until they are ready to breed, usually around late May, and then will respond to the males drumming.”
How long will it be till someone buys this bird a copy of She’s Just Not That Into You?
