Margaux's Nutrition Nibble
Perezito‘s nutrition expert Margaux is back for more tips for teens!
Gotta hot date? Are you getting ready for a school dance?
Nutrition can play a key role in how you look and feel — especially before a big event!
Here are Margaux tips to naturally help your hair, nails and deflate the bloat in your belly!
Here’s what she has to say:

Even celebs know that eating a nutritious diet before walking the red carpet is important for both their mind and body. For shimmering and healthy hair be sure to include plenty of “good fats” in your diet from foods like avocados, salmon, and olives. Coconut oil is a healthy saturated fat that can add strength and shine to your hair. In fact, you can even add a little directly to your hair to give it an extra boost! Zap zits with omega 3 fatty acids found in tuna, halibut, and sardines.
Some other great foods for healthy, clear skin include apples, broccoli, spinach, carrots, sweet potatoes and red peppers. These are high in vitamin A which is an antioxidant that protects our cells from damage.
Feeling bloated? Wipe out water retention by eating kiwi fruits, celery, sweet potatoes, and cucumbers. If you’re feeling a bit-backed up, start eating fiber-rich foods including apples, artichokes, oranges, and beans. Always drink plenty of water during the day to help stay regular and hydrated. Naturally strong and beautiful nails start with eating calcium-rich foods such as spinach, yogurt, kale, and cottage cheese. If your nails are brittle, eat cauliflower, peanuts, and lentils as these are all good sources of the nail-strengthening nutrition biotin.
Healthy foods aren’t just for eating. Did you know that there are many natural beauty treatments that use foods to help you look your best? You can even make your own beauty products using ingredients right from your kitchen!
Here is my favorite “recipe” for Coconut Lip Gloss (from Janice Cox‘s, Natural Beauty at Home). Make a batch a week before your big event to keep your lips soft, smooth, and healthy!
DIY Flavored Coconut Lip Gloss
– 1 Tbsp. coconut oil (I personally use the organic, cold-pressed coconut oil from Barlean’s Organic Oils because it has amazing taste, texture, and is full of nutrients)
– a few drops of your favorite flavored oil such as strawberry, orange, or you can use 1/8 tsp of vanilla, peppermint, or almond extract
Mix ingredients well in a small dish with the back of a teaspoon. Spoon the mixture into a lip gloss container. Rub into your lips and enjoy!

OMG! Who know sardines could get rid of zits??
