Relatives of Barack Obama are now revealing that 85-year-old Madelyn Payne Dunham, his maternal grannie, recently broke her hip, has not been well for a long time, and that “she’s unhappy with the condition that she’s in.”
So sad. It’s what happens with very old age.
Madelyn’s 86th birthday is this Sunday and most of the family is flying out to Hawaii to support and celebrate. Obama’s sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, cares for their grandmother at her Honolulu apartment.
Obama’s great uncle and Madelyn’s brother, Charles Payne, said in a telephone interview that he had a “short and as upbeat as possible conversation” with Madelyn. He is also planning on visiting Hawaii.
They discussed family matters, but Charles declined to elaborate or comment on whether or not he thinks Madelyn will see the outcome of the November 4th election. He did say, however, “it’s been terribly important to her.”
This somehow adds a whole new element of suspense and urgency to the election!
