This is sad and yet inspiring at the same time.
A 51-year-old school bus driver in Akron, Ohio, has been deemed a hero by police after she saved a ten-year-old student’s life.
The awful incident happened during a routine fire drill as the students practiced exiting the bus from the emergency back door exit. When the last student hopped off, the bus began to roll backwards, and the bus driver, Laura Zborowski, was able to get the student out of the way but was unable to save herself.
Laura was part of a private school bus company, but the school the company worked for, Middlebury Academy, released a statement that said:
“The tragic loss of our team member Laura Zborowski has deeply saddened everyone at Petermann. Laura was a compassionate mentor, a dedicated trainer and a professional school bus driver we were proud to have on our team. She put the safety of the students entrusted in her care above all else and will be sincerely missed by all.”
Laura’s neighbor was not surprised that the school bus driver did what she did. said:
“Your character comes through when the chips are down. You react. You don’t think ├óΓé¼╦£I want to be around for my son.”
That quote refers to the fact that the bus driver leaves behind a 12-year-old son.
A page has been set up to help support Laura Zborowski’s family during this awful time in their lives. The creator of the funding page Charles Little said:
“The money we raise will go directly to her family. Giving your life to save another is the biggest sacrifice one person can make. So lets show our support for this real HERO.”
We absolutely agree that Laura Zborowski is the definition of a real hero, and she’s an inspiration to us all.

A heroic act such as this is definitely something we all should give a little something to.
